MASSAGE THERAPY

Registered massage therapy uses specialized manual techniques to help people manage pain, injury, stress, movement dysfunction and symptoms of vestibular disorders. It works by reducing muscle tension, normalizing tissue movement, promoting better blood and lymph flow, reducing inflammation and calming the nervous system.

In addition to traditional massage, Laura Manning offers specialized massage services in Craniosacral therapy, Lymphatic Drainage massage and TMJ (Jaw) dysfunction management:

Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST)

Treatment that uses gentle contact to assist with underlying issues such as an overstressed nervous system, fascial problems, headaches, TMJ problems, regional pain syndromes, and other concerns. CST uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of fluids in and around the central nervous system and works to boost inherent self-regulation, self-correction and self-healing. The therapy can be used successfully with children and adults.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

MLD assist your body’s lymphatic system to decrease fluid retention in the limbs, torso, abdomen, and face. It is a gentle hands-on treatment that is effective in reducing symptoms of lymphoedema, post surgical / injury swelling, and assist with reducing water retention. The aim of the massage is to stimulate or move the excess fluid away from the swollen area so that it can drain away normally. This Massage also encourages and improves drainage in the body.

How it might help:

  • Eustachian Tube Dysfunction: CST can help release tight muscles and fascia (connective tissue) around the jaw, neck, and skull, which may allow the Eustachian tubes (which help drain the ears) to open more easily.
  • Dizziness & Tinnitus: These can sometimes be caused by imbalances or tension in the bones or tissues of the head and inner ear. CST works to gently rebalance those areas.
  • Swelling and bloating control
  • Sinus Problems: Gentle techniques around the face and skull can help release pressure and improve drainage of the sinuses.
In short: CST aims to improve the natural movement of fluids and reduce restrictions around the head and spine, which may relieve pressure and improve how things drain and function.

How They Work Together:

  • Craniosacral therapy works on the structure—helping the bones, tissues, and nerves move and function better.
  • Lymphatic massage works on the flow—helping fluids drain and inflammation go down.

Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJD)

TMJD focuses on releasing tension in the primary muscles of the jaw, specifically the masseter and temporalis. This often involves intra-oral work, where the therapist uses a gloved finger to reach deep muscles like the pterygoids from inside the mouth. They also address “referred pain” by massaging the neck, shoulders, and scalp to correct postural imbalances that strain the jaw. Through a combination of trigger point therapy and gentle joint mobilization, the goal is to reduce inflammation, stop clicking, and restore a full range of motion. This comprehensive approach shifts the jaw from a state of chronic clenching to functional relaxation.

My husband has a history of vertigo and recently had some terrible episodes. After a thorough assessment, he immediately felt supported with evidence based exercises and strategies that really helped. The knowledge the physiotherapist has is exemplary. We were impressed with the support and emails with step by step exercises. Direct billing is also helpful. Highly recommend.

I cannot express how thankful I am for finding Zoe! After being diagnosed with BPPV following a hospital visit for severe vertigo, I was honestly overwhelmed and scared. Zoe took the time to explain everything that was happening with my inner ear in a way that actually made sense and made me feel so much better about it. She was patient, thorough, and tried multiple techniques to help get my crystals back where they needed to be. After just 2 visits, I felt such a huge improvement and finally started feeling like myself again. If you’re debating whether physiotherapy is worth trying, especially for vertigo, I absolutely recommend giving it a shot! Thank you again, Zoe! You seriously gave me my normal life back! Also, shoutout to Alison at the front desk! She’s so sweet, funny, and welcoming every time you walk in!

It was my first time seeing Zoe, although my daughter has seen her in the past and she worked miracles with her addressing her vertigo, this is why I went to see her post my brain surgery. She was very thorough, professional and empathetic to what I was going through. Zoe took the time to explain what BPPV is and how she was going to test if I had it or whether it was brain related. Needless to say, it was the crystals in my right ear which she was able to fix with our initial session. Thank you so much Zoe. She also sent me a link to a YouTube video should it reoccur.

I had undergone physio for my back and neck several times in the last 6 years with varying results. I moved to Pickering a year ago and Zoe was the second therapist I tried out. She has been nothing short of exceptional. The pain and stiffness has reduced for me significantly so much that I'm starting to feel hopeful again about my body and health, which no other doctor or practitioner has done for me in several years. She explains what is causing the problems in my body and explains what we are trying to do to fix it quite week. The streching exercises she prescribes are really effective that it no longer feels like I'm just going through the motions without any results. And when something doesn't seem to work, she's quick to present alternatives. Zoe also has a warm and welcoming personality. I always look forward to our sessions. With that said, I can finally start thinking about ending my long physio journey only thanks to Zoe.
