I had suffered mild dizzy spells for about 5 years followed by 3 severe episodes and ended up in the hospital for a week unable to walk unassisted due to vomiting and imbalance issues. McKelvie Physiotherapy was recommended to me for vestibular rehabilitation. I found Zoe to be very knowledgeable, friendly and a compassionate professional. She has great listening skills, takes the time to explain what’s happening and gives you the tools to get you back on the road to recovery. I have made significant improvement since my visits with Zoe Brown. Thank you Zoe! I couldn’t have done it without your help!
At the beginning of 2023, I suffered a severe vertigo episode that landed me in Lakeridge Emergency. For many weeks after, my visual impairment/balance problems would not go away and I was becoming frustrated. I did not drive for five weeks, because I did not feel safe to do so. The hospital did CT and MRI scans, but they were negative. My doctor advised me it would take time, but that didn't work for me. After many weeks of frustration and no actual diagnosis, I felt I had no choice but to consult Google. Based on my searches, it appeared that I had suffered either BPPV or vestibular neuritis. When I researched ways to recover, I learned of vestibular physiotherapy. I was ecstatic to find McKelvie Physiotherapy in Oshawa. I can't tell you how relieved I was to finally meet Zoe and to be assessed. Right away, she discovered I still had a bit of BPPV and fixed that right away. It also appeared that I may have had vestibular neuritis and Zoe set me up with exercises to do daily. These exercises work! Over time, my vision and balance improved. I even found myself forgetting about my 'bouncy vision'. On top of being a great vestibular physiotherapist, Zoe is friendly, caring and compassionate. You will never doubt her commitment to helping you. Thank you for everything Zoe!
Zoe has literally given me my life back. I have had vertigo for 18 years, and have had countless doctors, specialists, and practitioners offer a host of solutions for my issue. None of which worked. I went to see Zoe 3 weeks ago, on a physician's recommendation. This appointment was a first for me: Zoe listened to what I had to say about how I was living with this affliction, empathized with me, and made me feel heard with regard to how difficult life had been dealing with frequent dizziness and vomiting. She ran some tests, and within the span of an hour, she had diagnosed me with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, explained this affliction with fantastic visual aids and great detail, and had given me tools to stave off the dizzies as they happen, to avoid full blown attacks. I left feeling hopeful, but skeptical, as how could it possibly be as simple as a maneuver to make crystals in my ear behave? I am THRILLED to say it was this simple for me. I wake in the mornings with the same yukky stomach and swirling head that I have had for years, but now I use Zoe's magic to counteract these symptoms, and I get out of bed actually feeling decent. To go from feeling perpetually unwell, missing work, and missing out on life events with friends and family, to having control of this has been incredible for me. Truly life changing. I am grateful for Zoe's expertise, her gentle and empathetic nature, and for the tools she has given me to help me live life to the fullest. I wish I had gotten the recommendation for her clinic years ago!!! Thank you so much, Crystal Tragert
Zoey is super friendly and professional. She took the time to listen to the symptoms and then explain, in layman terms, BPPV. In a positive tone assured me that this solvable. Through the exercises, the symptoms were alleviated. I was assured that I can call Zoey to return should the symptom of vertigo and imbalance reappear. The only downside of the clinic is the parking.
Following a benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, a doctor recommended that I consult a physiotherapist specialized in vestibular rehabilitation, which is how I contacted Zoe. She made herself available very quickly. During our meeting, she was really professional, asking me questions and doing small tests to confirm that I needed an Epley maneuver. She was also educational, taking the time to explain what was happening to me, which was very reassuring. I felt really taken care of. Afterwards, Zoe sent me a follow-up email to see how I was doing. She then answered any questions I still had and offered potential solutions if I felt I needed them.
At 70 years old, and a full array of sports over the years, I have been to many health care providers, some just okay, some very good, and may I suggest if you are looking for EXCELLENT, then come and have Zoey help you. I was suddenly experiencing dizziness, even when just sitting and turning my head, weird... Anyway, Zoey is a specialist in this area of 'Vestibular Rehabilitation' (who knew?). What I appreciated above the treatments, was the time and patience that Zoey took to explain what the heck is going on in there! It's inner ear/nerve/canal stuff that Zoey explains clearly and consistently for simple folks like me. Besides treatment, Zoey will send you home with exercises to get things back in order. It's working very well for me, and if the dizziness returns (occassionally) I am able to take some remedial actions to settle it down. Trust me, Zoey is one of the best!
I visited McKelvie Physio and saw Zoe after dealing with minor dizziness for 6 months following being hit by a car on my bike. After being told by a few professionals that "it would clear up in time" or it was due to neck stiffness from the whiplash, seeing Zoe was a breath of fresh air. Zoe took her time in the thorough assessment, ruling out various issues before diagnosing me and treating me. She then gave me some exercises to do at home and 3 days later, the dizziness is GONE. I'm so grateful for 1) her knowledge and expertise, 2) her care and taking so much time to be so thorough with me, and 3) no longer having any dizziness! 10/10 would recommend Zoe to ANYONE having issues with dizziness, balance, etc. Best decision I could have made. Thank you!
I have been a client of Zoe’s for the past several months. She is very patient, caring, conscientious, and professional. Zoe was extremely thorough in explaining the diagnose of my injury and explaining the steps she would be taking in order to get me back on my road to recovery. She was very motivating throughout my sessions and continued to be positive even when we had to go backwards in order to move forwards with my injury. She listened carefully, asked good questions, gave me excellent exercises, and regularly updated and adapted these to my abilities. After our sessions, Zoe would email the instructions for each exercise so that I could refer to these on my own. She measured my progress and continued to encourage me throughout my therapy. I definitely owe her a lot and appreciate everything she has done for me.
Zoe was so amazing, professional and accommodating. She is now my go to for future vestibular challenges and I would definitely recommend her to others.
Zoe is incredibly knowledgeable and encouraging. I highly recommend to anyone suffering vestibular issues. After a long period of frustration and discomfort, I have a game plan and tools to help. Thank you Zoe!
